Cape Town’s SeaH4 clinches top honours in the ClimateLaunchpad finale
A Cape Town-based startup that is developing an algae-based replacement for fossil fuels has beaten 40 countries to claim the €10 000 top prize at ClimateLaunchpad's green business idea competition finale in Vienna.
SeaH4 farms seaweed to produce biofuels, and then develops these fuels into carbon-neutral alternatives for sectors that have difficulty electrifying, such as the shipping and aviation industries.
ClimateLaunchpad, powered by Climate KIC and supported by Bank of America and Irish Aid, helps early-stage climate innovators turn ideas into viable businesses.
This year’s final was the first in-person event since 2019, and brought together startups, investors and partners under the umbrella of the Climate Innovation Festival.
SeaH4 was selected as the winner from more than 2 700 ideas and 500 participating teams.
Apart from the cash prize, the South African company will also receive tailored support, investor access and visibility within the global cleantech ecosystem.
In 2025 alone, more than 300 volunteers from around the world served as mentors, coaches and jury members at ClimateLaunchpad.
